Elizabeth Monterey is a 17-year-old girl, who always had everything: lots of money, friends, the perfect boyfriend, and a promising future in the archery world. But an inexplicable accident changed her life forever, and now she needs to face the harsh reality of the death of her parents, a brother in a coma and the loss of her fortune.
As if she hadn’t problems enough, demonic-looking creatures want the freedom to come and go to the human world as they please, and Elizabeth is the one chosen to prevent that from happening. But, she can’t do it alone. It will be necessary to find out who her allies are… and her enemies.
So, the hunt begins.
Revelations, the first book in the Thera’s Eyes series, is an incredible adventure story, filled with magic and romance. A novel that follows the current trends and still manages to be different from anything you have ever read.
Review:
In the beginning of Revelations, we meet Beth, a young woman who has not been having a good year. In fact, it’s been pretty bad. And that makes the reader empathize with her but I almost felt as if I was reading a story in a newspaper and feeling bad but it didn’t really affect me that much. We gain information about Beth’s past but we don’t find more about the accident besides the results. Although later on we do find out what happened.
We were also given an introduction to Silver Blade. It seemed like every small city that’s ever been and that made it comforting to this reader at least. And easy to imagine. I live in a small town, so not quite a city but it was easy to imagine what Silver Blade looked and felt like. That was one thing that I felt the author did really well. Her descriptions were amazing. They were really detailed and it was easy to imagine who or what she was describing. Not to mention the demons she came up with and described. She had a very vivid imagination.
At times the dialogue seems almost awkward. I know people don’t always use contractions but sometimes they do and I felt that it seemed that most of the dialogue could have been fixed by adding some contractions.
Leon was confident, and should have come off as cocky(which he kind of did) but rather than being annoying it was more amusing. Than he could be a complete jerk. Really I almost felt like trying to punch him out occasionally. Although there were a few moments he was really sweet and you couldn’t help but admire him.
I found it a bit difficult to see the teenagers as saviors. Usually we look to adults. So that was something different. Then there was the fact that they actually end up becoming leaders in their community. I found it hard to believe that the six teenagers would be able to take charge without some protests from adults. But then again there was some protest, just not much. And those six teenagers did save a lot of lives.
If you loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer than this is a book you should definitely give a chance.
