Book Review: Twas the Nate Before Christmas

Title: Twas the Nate Before Christmas

Author: Sophie Sloane

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Reviewer: Aly

Book Blurb:
Daisy, a young, American woman, has moved to Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the town centre at Christmastime, she rather clumsily falls to the ground. She looks up to see the most handsome face she had ever seen. Nate. It was love at first fall.

He is a gardener at Friar Park, but things don’t seem to add up, as he is constantly jumping into black sports cars, using code names, and hiding her from his friends. At other times, he is the perfect gentleman; wining and dining her at fancy restaurants, zipping around on their scooters, and wooing her with his British wit and banter.

Review:

‘Twas Nate was a good read. I have to admit that I really enjoyed Daisy as a character. She seemed like every woman and I could almost imagine I was doing something that I always wished to do. I lived vicariously through Daisy and enjoyed every moment of it. Nate was a bit of a harder nut to crack and I almost found that I didn’t enjoy him as a character much?

That being said, the plot seemed a bit obvious especially once we knew Daisy’s obsession, and she seemed to put clues together only to disregard them. That being said, it didn’t detract from the fun and laughable moments that came about. It was lighthearted and fun, never for a moment being too melancholy or dark. Which sometimes, especially around the holidays is just the perfect type of book to read to put you in a good mood. I was having one of those days that just nothing seemed to go right and ‘Twas Nate made me laugh and the day seem a bit brighter.

The writing was upbeat, with not really any grammar mistakes or phrases that could have been done better. Daisy’s over dramatic voice made the funny moments even more hilarious and brought the book to life.

Overall, ‘Twas Nate was a good, light read, perfect for the holidays.
