Book Review+Giveaway: Mean Streak

Title: Mean Streak

Author: Sandra Brown

Reviewer: Aly

Book Blurb:
Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her.

While police suspect Jeff of “instant divorce,” Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won’t even tell her his name. She’s determined to escape him, and willing to take any risks necessary to survive.

Unexpectedly, however, the two have a dangerous encounter with people who adhere to a code of justice all their own. At the center of the dispute is a desperate young woman whom Emory can’t turn her back on, even if it means breaking the law.

As her husband’s deception is revealed, and the FBI closes in on her captor, Emory begins to wonder if the man with no name is, in fact, her rescuer.

Review:

...This book…..just….this book. It was a roller coaster of misleading evidence, confusion and just overall high emotional reactions. Seriously, and it sometimes even deceives you into thinking that something is wrong with you(or maybe that was just me).

The plot was amazing! There were tons of times that misleading information or information that you just don’t have and have to try to infer leads you to the totally wrong conclusions. And the author has managed to create a twisting web of partial truths, confusion and difficulties for the readers to try and figure out. That was a hard one to deal with, especially because with one of the characters you feel as if you shouldn’t like him as much as you do(hence me thinking something was wrong with myself.)

And now that I’ve brought up the characters, each character was engaging, lifelike and just overall not a perfect human being. It was amazing to see each character learn new truths and how they handled them. Not to mention trying to figure out things alongside them.

Not only the plot but the book was well written. There were no spelling or grammar errors(that I found) and it was writing that kept the reader engaged and interested. I do have to mention that the book jumped around a bit and honestly there were times I had to reread a paragraph or two to figure out that they had moved forward or backward in time or to different locations. That was slightly confusing and occasionally pulled me out of the story but it was easy to be brought back in.

Overall Mean Streak was a really great book and a difficult one to figure out what would happen in the end. And that ending was beautiful. I won’t say any more about it but if you’re into books with lots of twisting paths and misleading evidence than this is definitely a book to check out!
