I love reading (duh), but with so many good books waiting to be discovered out there, sometimes I can't help but wonder: Is it worth my time rereading books? Below I have listed the pros and cons of rereading.
Cons:
*you know what is going to happen...the plot twists aren't exactly plot twists anymore
*you could be using this time to read a new book (or sleeping if you're behind on sleep)
*some of the "dramatic" factor is lost reading a book second time around (ie. lack of surprise 'cuz you know what's coming...kind of goes back to first point)
*you have to suffer a book hangover again once you finish the book if you really liked the book (of course this could be cured by reading said book for the third time...or fourth...or fifth)
Pros:
*you get more attached to the characters
*you get to read passages you missed the first time (I sometimes do this when I read fast...like I will miss a sentence here or there)
*you see all the foreshadowing that you missed before (ie. I didn't make the connection between the two-fingers-two-the-eyebrow-sign in the book Prodigy until I reread it today)
*you get to pick up more quotable quotes from the book
*you get more emotional (research has proven that the first time reading a book readers are more focused on events/story line; the second time readers can focus more on the emotional aspect)
*you can officially call yourself a fangirl (or fanboy?) of the author of the book you just reread
*rereading a book usually takes less time than the first time
Sooooo.....clearly the pros outweigh the cons for me. I have decided to reread the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu over this winter break. So far I have read Legend and Prodigy. It was definitely worth the time. I made several connections I missed before and grew even more attached to Day and June (the two main characters.)
