What happens when a single mom’s four-year-old daughter falls in love with Mr. Right and she doesn’t?
Maggie Tyson’s rule: no bad boys. Her incarcerated ex-husband broke her of that attraction. Needing to escape his threats and the scrutiny of the people in her hometown, Maggie relocates to New York City. Determined to not make the same mistakes, she has a mile-long list of dos and don’ts. Unfortunately, her daughter, Cecily, doesn’t like to follow them. When Cecily wanders away from her and right into Rick Stone’s office, Maggie knows he’s the exact type she’s been trying to avoid. Can she resist him or will she succumb to his willful charm?
Rick Stone’s rule: bed them don’t wed them. Running a multi-billion dollar business doesn’t leave him with much time to do anything else, particularly with an overbearing grandfather breathing down his neck. But when a man works hard, he needs to play even harder. Voted America’s most eligible bachelor, Rick doesn’t have any problems getting women into his bed—except one.
Two auburn beauties stumble into his life.
One will break his heart.
The other—heal it.
Will he love or leave them?
Review:
Oh my goodness, there are not enough words to describe this book and how it made me feel. I felt a whole range of emotions-sadness, laughter, happiness, excitement, etc. The sweet moments were so painfully sweet and the terrible moments brought you to the lowest of lows. The author really cemented these feelings for you and it was also thanks to the connection that you felt to the characters that they had created. You became interested in the characters lives and what would happen to them. They became real and like friends. That is what C.C. Koen has done with Unlikely Allies.
The plot seems to be moving quite slowly until finally it hits the moment where it kicks into high gear. But the slow moving pace never turned me off because it meant more time with Cece, Rick, Matt, etc. You fell even more in love with them as you saw their everyday lives, and what they were dealing with or how they were as characters. The major plot point was one of those ones that was kind of expected but nonetheless it was an intriguing situation to witness especially when you weren’t sure of the outcome.
And that ending. It was beautiful and amazing and wow. I will certainly be adding C.C. Koen to the list of authors that I need to keep an eye on. She created a book that drew me in, made the characters seem real and the plot was one that while the major point was expected, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t any less interesting.
