Title: The Infinite Moment of Us
Author: Lauren Myracle
Genre: NA (new adult)
Review:
I absolutely love the cover of this book--the colors are just gorgeous! I wish I could say that I loved the content within the pages as much I loved the cover...anyways, I'll try to keep this review short and simple (partly because I'm sort of tired and partly because I don't like writing less-than-awesome reviews.)
The plot is simple enough--it follows the most basic YA/NA romance novel creed: girl meets boy, girl falls in love (or vice versa.) And I'm okay with this, provided there is some twist to relationship or if the romance aspect of the novel isn't the main plot. However, in The Infinite Moment of Us, romance is what the whole story revolves around and the relationship between Wren and Charlie (2 main characters) seem to be just a bit too perfect.
The novel opens up with the seniors graduating from high school. Wren and Charlie make eye contact in the parking lot and they're heads over heels for one another just like that. There seems to be very little conflict in their relationship. I feel like a good 30-50% of the book is descriptions of Charlie and Wren flirting with each other. Yes, I understand that it is a love story, but can I please have some more excitement?
Wren is basically the "perfect" daughter--straight A's, no drugs, no boyfriends (until now) and always follow curfew. But lately, she feels as if she needs to start taking control of her own life instead of doing whatever her parents tell her to do. So she meets Charlie and pretty soon...well, let's just say her life is turned upside down.
Tess is Wren's friend and kind of a rebel. She's the girl who makes the "special" lemonade or spreads the gossip. She's also a good friend and provides an anchor for Wren in stormy weather. I think that Tess is probably one of the most dynamic characters in the novel (especially since Charlie and Wren are so calm.)
Last but not least, there's Charlie. He has a younger brother named Dev who is paralyzed waist down. He also lives with foster parents. I love Charlie's character, mostly because he's so caring and logical (most of the time.)
Okay, jumping back to Wren for a quick sec here--I got along with Wren's personality most of the time except for this one scene. Wren sends Charlie a text and is awaiting a reply. However, she doesn't receive one right away because Charlie is pulled away by a family emergency. And get this--Wren gets mad that Charlie would rather chose his family over her! And they've only met, like, 3 weeks ago! I think that was my breaking point for Wren. How could she be so selfish? Okay...enough of my ranting...
The writing was good and the pacing was fine as well. I just wished there was more *oomph* in the story or some kind of plot twist.
