Book Review+Giveaway: The Silver Sickle

Title: The Silver Sickle

Author: Ellie Ann

Genre: Science Fiction

Reviewer: Lauren Clark

Book Blurb:
The end of humanity will come through the Silver Sickle . . .
Farissa lives every moment with reckless abandon, for it may be her last. Any day now, the alien goddesses will harvest her and take her to the mysterious Silver Sickle, never to return. She’s accepted that. What she can’t accept is this new idea of freedom Zel has planted in her head. She’d give almost anything to be with Zel, but how can she run from her destiny if it means putting the whole kingdom in danger?
Everyone in the desert kingdom believes the goddesses are immortal, but Zel has invented a way to kill them. Now all he has to do is convince Farissa to run away with him and plant a seed of hope in her heart that she’s not destined to die. Little does he know that one seed of hope could change the course of the future.

Review:
Before I start giving you the review let me tell you this. I never was a big sci-fi fan. I love dystopia and the Lux series but not straight out of the book classic sci-fi. I just was never interested. After reading this I was wowed. When I first received this book I knew I was stepping a little out of what I was used to but after the first few pages I was entertained and intrigued at this new type of genre.

In the beginning the story was set up. It explained almost everything. I was confused later in the book because lack of information in the beginning but the context helped me figure it out. There were many diverse character and individual stories also told in this novel. This book was told from three separate points of view but also in third person. The view I loved most was Farissa's. She was the main character. Her development was complete and I really loved that! Then there was Zel's. He was a bit distant. These two P.O.V.s gave me a better insight of what was happening once Farissa's was captured. The last P.O.V was Gira's. She was the main antagonist. Let me explain this complex character. First of all her whole demeanor reminded me of the white queen in Narnia so think her.

Now she was the first alien "goddess", the first Amor who started this. She had the whole kingdom with the exception of the cogsmen wrapped around her finger. When I read her point of view than Farissa's I was mentally shouting "no don't do that can't you see" because I had read Gira's first. This story from Farissa's P.O.V reminded me of The Selection with a bit of aliens and machinery thrown in. Throughout the story I was always waiting for Farissa's story--not that the others weren't good but the weren't as entertaining.

So enough about P.O.V.s. The next thing is the title. When I think sickle I think Kronos's sword from Percy Jackson. It took me awhile to figure it out but them I was like " ohhhhh it makes sense now". I think this was the best title for the book seeing as the story revolved around it. The ending was closing. It knotted up all lose ties.

One thing I was looking forward to was Rashan's reunitation with her family ,which was not included in the book. Over all I rate this book 3 and a 1/2 stars. I think the story was great and I loved Farissa. The reason why a star and a half was taken off is because while it was apparent Zel's and Farissa had a relationship it never was really developed or seen not including the first page or so. I recommend this to fans of: Exceptional, The Selection, and Girl of Fire and Thorns.
